Meet the next Congressperson from the 1st District of Maine: Chellie Pingree. I didn't vote for her in the primary (my candidate, Ethan Strimling came in third), but District 1 is considered a pretty safe seat for the Democrats. She should beat the Republican winner, Charlie Summers, in the fall without much trouble. Pingree has been a powerful leader in the Maine Legislature, lost to Susan Collins 6 years ago, and has been the president of Common Cause - which is very progressive national political action organization. She has come out in favor of impeaching President Bush...which is just stupid...but she'll do a good job. Tom Allen had a primary opponent for his run for the Senate, and he won 85%-15%. Hopefully he'll actually start running! I'll get a chance to interview all the candidates in a couple of weeks as they vie for the MEA endorsement. I'm not in school today - Sarah is having her wisdom teeth out. It will be good to take a break from my 84 degree classroom. Very good learning environment.~MET

Just in case you weren't aware, you personally won't be interviewing the candidates for MEA Screening & Endorsements; the MEA President will be doing that and everyone in attendance will have an opportunity to vote for candidate endorsement - - - but no one other than President Galgay will be doing any interviewing. The questions come directly from NEA and are asked at each State Affiliates' interviewing event without exception.
