Aside from the emergence of the black flies and mosquitoes, this past weekend was awesome. Nice weather, a couple of great walks with the dog, chillin' with Owen, I got to visit briefly with both Sarah and Chris, and I spent a lot of time with M-S. I've been in a really good mood lately, and since the weekend began I have three new things to be excited about:
#1 - Ryan Zimmerman. Ok - the Nationals stink - but 3rd baseman Ryan Zimmerman (above) has a major league leading 21 game hitting streak. He, Adam Dunn, and a couple of young pitchers keep me tuning in for each game.
#2 - I have made plans for my first camping trip. I'm at my parents' this weekend, and the following weekend I'll be at the Maine Education Association Representative Assembly in Portland...
but then I'll be in the woods of Maine. I'm making an effort to hit as many state parks as I can this year, and first on the list will be Peaks-Kenney on Sebec Lake:

I don't think I've ever been here, but I know when we camped as a family when I was a kid we did a lot of the parks. Its supposed to have good fishing, and there are a few golf courses nearby. I'm hoping fab might be able to come up for a round on Saturday. Sebec Lake is just above Dover-Foxcroft:

I'm really looking forward to it, and to be honest - I need to get into the forest.
#3 - This September 1st M-S and I will have been married for 9 years. Yesterday we had a good time discussing how we might celebrate our 10th anniversary. Right now we are leaning toward renting a cabin on Lake Champlain in Vermont:

The painting is called
Lake Champlain Sunset by Kathy Hebert. So, in August, 2010 we hope to spend a week on the water close to Burlington. We'd be close to the happenings of the city, and be able to retreat to a lake setting to relax. Not to mention that the single 'A' affiliate of the Washington Nationals just happens to be the Vermont Lake Monsters. We'll start planning for real right after Christmas, hopefully it will all work out. Lots to look forward to in the the months ahead!
