Ma & Dad came by today for what has become a great post-Thanksgiving tradition: Maple Lane Farm's pottery sale.
We love Robbi's work, and she and Bill have a wonderful farm.
We also stopped in at a local institution - Hussey's General:
We finished the morning with M-S's awesome turkey soup.
Most of the dishes on the table above, and in our cupboards in general are from Robbi's shop. We added to our collection today, and always look forward to any visit to the farm.
This holiday never disappoints me. I've had a great couple of days, and today was especially fantastic. Yesterday Chris and Sarah came out to spend a little time with Baxter. The dog LOVED visiting with them.
I haven't seen my kids for a while, so it was really nice to visit with them.
We started this morning like we always do - with a nice walk with the dog:
It was 19 degrees, and it felt great. Then it was time to get to work:
Mammie and Tut joined us in the mid afternoon and brought a centerpiece:
And a big blue bottle of Riesling:
We started with filet mignon wrapped in bacon:
And really good pumpkin soup:
And - of course, the regular Thanksgiving fare:
Baxter got the giblets:
And Owen got his on the table while we were watching Bax:
Mammie & Tut also brought the pies to go with a tasty pound cake that M-S made:
It was all really good. Really, really. I'm stuffed, happy, and looking forward to a good night's sleep.
...are the next two. Tomorrow I'll spend the day beginning to get ready for Thanksgiving, hanging out with the pets, listening to music, and NOT thinking about work. Thursday will be spent cooking, walking the dog, sharing a delicious brunch with M-S, listening to Alice's Restaurant, getting together with family, and enjoying the feast. This year we'll have a few new wrinkles which I'll write about later. It will be a smaller crowd at my house: my brother and sister won't be coming up from DC - and Alex may have to work. So instead of our normal 12 or so, we could be down to seven. It will still be wonderful, and I'm sure we will talk with Jim and Suz during the day. I hope all of you enjoy the day!
There are times in my life when I think to myself, "Wow, this is a day that I should remember." Today was such a day. This morning I had a great walk with the dog. When I returned M-S had prepared an amazing brunch. This is the deer steak and onions that was a part of it:

I was so excited to see Cousin Sean tool on the Maryland basketball team.
But, he was injured and did not play. I did enjoy the afternoon with Baxter outside:
Bax is a good boy, and we had lots of fun. He and I had a great time playing outdoors.
This evening I made burgers on the grill. It was dark - but they came out awesome! What a fantastic fall day in Maine!
...Riverside Market in Oakland with two beautiful women. Dad decided to sit this one out, as he is battling a head cold. We had a great time and the food was very good. We started with some crusty bread and goat cheese:
They gave us waaaay too much cheese, so we brought it home to have with brunch tomorrow. My mom and I both had lamb:
Very tasty - I especially liked the potatoes. M-S had salmon:
The green stuff is mashed peas. I tried them - they were interesting. It was a nice drive, a good meal, and I always like eating out with both Ma and M-S.
Today we saw a big step in the Owen/Baxter relationship. Baxter usually chases the cat, jumps on him, wants to play too much, and is really a HUGE spaz. But today - they shared a piece of sunshine for a long time.
There was no roughhousing - just quality time spent together.
It was great to see - though Owen did smack Baxter once just to show him who the alpha male is:
I love to watch the pets, and I hope they continue to get along as they share space.
...unveiling new uniforms. No more script "Nationals" - just the signature curly 'W' that is the real symbol of baseball in the District. I approve, and believe me, we are on the way! Lets Go NATS!
